Faith and Deliverance: Trusting the Lord in Battles

The Lord is mighty in battle. When the evildoer assails our life—our body and soul—it is good to remember that there is One who not only sees our plight but is powerful enough to come to our aid. The Lord, our warrior God, stands ready. And in the prayer Jesus taught us, he invites us to cry out, “Deliver us from the evil one!”

Yet the Lord who is mighty in battle is also infinitely wise. We may cry out for his deliverance, and still he may say, “Not now. Not yet. My purposes in you are not yet complete.” We rightly long for the God who fights for us, but we must do so in faith—trusting that our Father in Heaven knows what is best.

The Lord is mighty, yes—but also tender. He is filled with sympathy for all our sorrow and misery. He has clothed himself in our humanity, humbled himself, and been found in the likeness of man. Because of this, he is able to sympathize with us in all our weakness. He understands what it means to feel helpless and afflicted.

The Lord is mighty, wise, and sympathetic—and he is graciously comforting. He is the One who wipes away every tear. Like a loving Father, he gathers his children into his arms and binds up their wounds. He gives leaves for the healing of the nations and eternity to wash away our woes.

Your God is your Warrior King, your Wise Prophet, and your Sympathetic Priest. Look to him. Trust in him. Cast yourself upon his mercy. He will never forsake you, and he will never despise one of his little sheep. He holds tomorrow in his hand and your future already in place.

Whatever you’re facing today, look to him by faith. Rest your weary head upon his chest and take the next step forward, trusting that he will provide enough for tomorrow.
